Anthony
Papamichael
is a professional musician, who really respects Dino and his instruments.
You can see Anthony's feelings about Dino in the following letter that
he wrote about his relationship with Dino:
Meeting Dino was one of the highlights of my life. I was told about
Dino by my parents, they lived three blocks from his store. I went to
see Dino and was completely astonished by the fact that someone in this
day and age with the current financial condition had opened this kind
of a business. As I entered the shop, I noticed many different types
of instruments. I introduced myself to Dino and explained who I was
and that I had severely damaged my bouzouki beyond repair and that I
need something special and unique. He showed me instruments that he
had invented. Personally, I am a big fan of a Luthier with imagination,
it is a lost art. Dino's personality was GOLDEN.... We really clicked....
I am a guitar player, I have used bouzouki for different styles of music,
like jazz, new age, even rock. I was so impressed with Dino that
I made the decision to buy one of his instruments. He showed me something
called a "BOUZOUTI", it had five sets of strings with the
top two fretless and the bottom three fretted. Of all my years traveling
the world and playing on records and going to shows I had never thought
of, seen, or even imagined something like this.... Dino's concept was
a milestone in pioneering that is soon to be a different category of
music, definitely. The sound of the instrument had a unique blend of
Mediterranean, Asian, Egyptian, and American sounds as well as its own
unique flavor. I immediately saw all the possibilities of utilizing
this instrument in my music. The thing that really distinguishes Dino
from all other Luthiers is his noticeably big heart and feeling for
the love of his craft.. He is in a class by himself and it is only a
matter of time as to when he will be credited in a magnificent way as
a very significant Luthier of our time"
